When we go to church, we are acting in obedience to God. God never intended the Christian life to be lived in isolation (see Hebrews 10:24-25). The Christian life is a life of togetherness, in which we find it easier to live for our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Every church is different. There are many factors to consider in choosing a local church for worship, instructions, service, and fellowship. As you may ask a friend to recommend a business, doctor, or school, talk to someone from the church you are considering. Above all, pray about your search. Seek the Lord's direction in finding a church home. The Bible says, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps" (Prov.16:9, NIV).

Simply put, prayer is conversation with God. Talking to God should be as natural as talking to a friend. Just as we enjoy talking to our friends as often as possible, we can talk with the Lord on a very regular basis. He is never too busy for us!

The writers of Scripture didn't just dream up what they wanted to say and then write it down. God inspired every word so that it would read just the way He wanted it to. The apostle Peter attests to this: "Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1:20-21 NIV).

The Bible is the Word of God. It is designed to be read and personally applied. It's helpful for teaching us truth about God and the world in which we live. By reading the Bible, we can know who Jesus Christ is and place our trust in Him to rescue us and lead us.

The reality is, no matter how good your intentions, you're going to be tempted by sin. The sinful nature that we were born with does not just disappear when we trust Jesus Christ, but the control that sin has over our lives is broken. Trusting Christ and placing him in control suggests new ownership. Even when you sin, God is ready to forgive and cleanse you.

If we have surrendered our lives to Jesus Christ and accepted his death on the cross as payment for our personal sins, we now belong to him. The Bible says, "To all who received him [Jesus Christ], to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12, NIV)

No matter what we've done and no matter how we've sinned, God loves us. When we look to Jesus Christ to save us from our sin and ask God for forgiveness, "every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men" (Matt.12:31 NIV).
